Sixth Form Students Send Christmas Cards of Kindness

Our Sixth Form students at Skinners’ Academy have been busy getting into the Christmas spirit by organising a project to write and send Christmas Cards to isolated elderly care home residents across the UK.

The students organised for cards to be written during tutor time by year 7, year 8 and sixth form students as well as by staff members. Thanks to their efforts, over 500 personally written cards will be distributed to care home residents across the country.

The cards will be posted to residential homes who are part of the Christmas Cards of Kindness Project.

The project was initially set up as a Facebook group and allows care homes to list their postal addresses and make requests for cards to be sent to their residents.

The Facebook group was established by Vicky Weller who said:

“I manage ten care homes, so I personally know the happiness the cards bring to people. I just love it when residents get letters or postcards. It’s wonderful for them, especially this year with very few visits allowed, post has been a lifeline and a real thing to look forward to each day.”

Year 13 Student Fatma Dogan said

“We wanted to help people feel good during these tough times. It’s really rewarding to know a small act can make a big difference.”

Readers who would like to get involved in the project can find the group on Facebook www.facebook.com/groups/909539939580632
